Check out romance author Brenda Hiatt’s website and click on the menu bar in the far left column for her “Show Me the Money!” page. (I would link directly to it, but she didn’t set up her site that way, so it would be rude of me to do a direct link.) Ms. Hiatt has provided author’s income information for many romance publishers, and the numbers are astonishing. (To a novice like me, they are encouraging.)

Thanks to author Allison Brennan for mentioning this author’s site in a recent blogpost about what she wished she had known when she was getting started. Even the lowly end of the payment scale looks pretty good to me right now. (I make a very nice living right now … but not with my fiction writing. And dammit, I plan to excel there too.)

Hope you enjoy it. This is something to sigh over while we’re each working toward our goals. I plan on writing romance, chick lit, science fiction, fantasy and more general interest novels too. What are your plans?
