Thanks, Melissa! Isn't it funny how folks so often will hold back some interesting little scrap of information about themselves or their area of expertise, as if they're just waiting to be asked prettily to show you their treasures? I love it when they relax and chat a bit more.

Come back soon! My next post will be the one I've been promising, about email or chat room interviews. :o)

These are great tips! I would add that at the end of the interview, always ask if there's anything they'd like to add, just in case you missed something they want to share.

Thanks for the article, Carolyn. I'll conduct a face-to-face interview in less than a month and will keep your tips in mind so that I'm well prepared when I get there. :-)

And as Laura and Jo, I'm looking forward to your tips on online interviews, too.

Hi, Laura, I know what you mean; online can be very difficult. I have a few suggestions that may help you. Let me write a couple of posts on that topic and I'll e-mail you to let you know when they're up. Thanks for the feedback!

I did a couple of face to face interviews and one phone interview in college. That was awhile ago. I haven't done a lot since then but they were all through email. Quite different from face to face interviews. One of the biggest problems is someone who gives the bare minimum in reply to your questions. Also, getting people to get their replies back to you.
